We’ve all heard the expression a “chain is only as strong as its weakest link”. Well, your body is no different and if you’re experiencing “pain” you will have “no gain” until the weak link causing the pain is fixed. Don’t ignore the pain or try to work through it. The “no pain no gain” mantra definitely does not apply here. Additionally, don’t self diagnose.
What to do?
See a respected practitioner, who will take the time to properly diagnose the issue and send you to the proper PT or trainer to help you strengthen and recover that weak link. And I cannot stress this enough, that this weak link must be brought back to 100% strength and mobility before you return to your normal exercise routine. Additionally, you must continue with whatever protocol you are given to correct the problem and continue it indefinitely or it will definitely return.
For example, it could be something as simple as a strain in your Achilles tendon. Favoring the other unaffected side and not addressing the issue with the injured side will have a chain reaction effect on your healthy side that will eventually affect the knee, hip and lower back muscles on that once healthy unaffected side. Now you have a whole host of new issues to deal with.
So be smart and listen to your body when it speaks.
And remember ……”No pain will grant you the greatest gain”
